One of the most pressing challenges facing vulnerable residents in Indianapolis is food insecurity. As unemployment rose in 2020, the demand on food pantries, community centers, and support agencies increased dramatically. While these organizations stepped up as critical distribution points, many struggled to restock their supplies, often relying on staff and personal vehicles not equipped to transport large, palletized loads from partners like Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana. This not only created logistical inefficiencies but also pulled staff away from directly serving their communities. 

At the same time, food banks experienced increased congestion as agencies navigated pickups using smaller vehicles. Recognizing this gap, Nine13Logistics quickly mobilized a solution. Leveraging our existing truck and trailer fleet, we established a coordinated delivery system to transport large quantities of food directly to partner organizations. Within days, we implemented a weekly delivery schedule capable of moving up to 25,000 pounds of food per day, five days a week— later, expanding capacity with the addition of a 24’ box truck. 

This initiative streamlined operations for more than three dozen community partners, allowing them to focus on serving residents while we handled the logistics. It also laid the foundation for long-term partnerships and expanded impact across Central Indiana.
